Joker concepts
Cor! Those samples are certainly very different to what we ended up with (and the top two are also far more horrific) but then I reckon we got something MUCH better than this in the finished product. I can’t say I can totally blame the model, who is clearly and hilariously NOT The Joker, because the hair and suit shown in those pictures just don’t look right at all, either, despite being quite faithful to the comic look. Anyway, that aside, I am TOTALLY getting this book.

You see I think in that concept the scarring is much more evident. When the joker gave the tale of “You know how I got these scars…” I was straining to see anything underneath the red lipstick.
Although a lot of that might have been down to the angle we were sitting at staring right up his left nostril.

Obviously they couldn’t go too far so they could keep the PG-13/12A rating. Also, if The Joker’s scarring was too bad maybe Harvey Dent’s face wouldn’t have much shock value.
Incidentally, the script book ‘confirms’ that Dent is in fact dead at the end from a broken neck. Personally I think the Nolans have already changed their minds and he will be back. Ledger’s death probably had bearing on that decision. Perhaps Dent will take The Joker’s place in whatever role (if any) he was going to have in the third film.

What I mean is that the script explicitly states he’s dead and yet it was as though they ended up going out of their way to make it more ambiguous in the edit, suggesting he could be back. I don’t see why they would do it if they hadn’t changed their minds.

What’s in the script that isn’t in the film?
I ask because “We see his dead body” is direct on the page, as description, but…well, that only translates as a shot of a non-moving figure on the ground. That’s not increased ambiguity in itself. (Not unless the script said “and then they cut off his head to be sure”.)
