The Elusiveness of Malcolm Tucker
Despite the saturation coverage that In The Loop has received in the broadsheet press in recent weeks, the film itself seems to be suffering a curiously low profile, with both Vue and Odeon apparently not carrying it. It’s a baffling decision- the politics are hardly controversial, and the independent cinemas running Armando Ianucci’s masterpiece are being mobbed, with many showings completely sold out. For those having to wait for a seat, you might find temporary solace in the distilled pit bull’s Guardian column on the recent smears scandal:

It’s a real shame it’s not on in mainstream cinemas, because it is fantastic.

A shame. The cineworld in Wandsworth has a couple of showings every day, and on Friday night 8.50 (when I went) was pretty much sold out. And justifiably, I would well recommend it. Slightly different tone to thick of it, but just as funny and just as inventive in the swearing (plus interesting to see anna chlumsky 15 years later)

It’s not on in my local cineworld either, but it is showing at the Sheffield one, so I might have to make a trek out there at some point.

Seems like double standards that the Odeon would carry Oliver Stone’s essentially rubbish ‘W’ and not this amazing piece of work which we’ll all be looking back at in ten years as one of the key classics of the decade. Odeon’s sales line ‘Fanatical About Film’ is looking hollower by the month.

It’s not on anywhere near me either but, by the looks of things, it’s going to get a proper release on May 15th. At least, that’s when my local cinema is scheduled to be showing it. I don’t know why they didn’t roll it out everywhere at the same time, or make it a bit clearer in the adverts (“In cinemas April 17th, or May 15th for plebs in the provinces”).
