I saw the Casino Royale trailer last night. I do wish Dame Judi Dench would learn a new accent.

As you can probably imagine, that's already ousted the Cybermen as my desktop wallpaper both at home and at work. It's utterly beautiful.

I love the grace that it shows, the pose as he hovers contemplatively over the Earth that he's been away from for so long, and the ever-so-slightly-but-not-enough-to-upset-people Christ-like way he's holding his hands. Seems to encapsulate what the film's all about, basically.

Notice, though, how the cape and boots are a much lighter and richer red than they actually are in the film? Makes me wonder if they've started to rethink their decision to go the way they did (i.e. making him look like the "Evil Drinking Shagging Superman" of Superman III) and are keen to rectify it in the publicity material...

I still have mixed feelings about what Singer is doing with the film. I hope when I see it it's fantastic, like a sort of antidote to the darker Batman Begins and the more moody Spiderman. But a couple of things, like Lois having a 5-year-old kid when she looks about 22 (which she is in real life) and Kevin Spacey doing a Dr. Evil impression, seem to be sticking a knife into proceedings. And the plot (which I won't spoil) sounds lame. We shall see...

Kate Bosworth is the piece of casting I'm least convinced about, by far. I stand by what I said when I wrote this (yes, that was a shameless "me writing for Empire" namedrop) when Parker Posey was cast, which is that she'd have made a great Lois. Then again, early word is that Bosworth is really good in it, and I was wrong about Billie Piper so I'm prepared to be wrong here.

But as for the other bit of casting you mention... it's Kevin fucking Spacey! He's one of the finest actors of his generation, he's absolutely perfect for playing the Gene Hackman-style movie Lex, and I reckon he'll be the best thing about the film...

Yes I like Spacey, I'm just basing my criticism off the trailer. The line in the trailer 'he came here for guidance' I just imagine him raising his hand and looking to camera Dr. Evil style, and of course 'billions!'. I shouldn't complain, I'm sure he'll be great. IMO the biggest question is whether Brandon Routh can pull it off. That will make or break the movie no matter how good the CG is.

That is indeed a great cover. Shame Total Film is nothing more than a glorified set of promotional blurbs, like. Empire and Hotdog are streets ahead in terms of actual writing.
