Yes, Pulp are infinitely cooler than Gwen Stefani.

Also, good as "Babies" is, it has the socks knocked off it by that album's best song - the epoch-definingly good "Do You Remember The First Time?"

I hasten to add that Cool is the only song she's done that I really like.

Anyway, yes, Do You Remember The First Time? is fantastic. And at the risk of sounding obsessed with them over the music - a great video as well.

Man, I love Pulp. Different Class remains one of the finest works ever committed to record by anyone, ever. I don't like His n Hers quite so much as some people do (to "the purists", that one's generally seen as the best), but it's worth it for its singles. And I do like This Is Hardcore a lot more than many seem to - even "Help The Aged", which I'll fight for the right to say is utterly terrific.

And while they weren't quite so great in the early days, they were still capable of genius - I got totally hooked on "Dogs are Everywhere" a little while back...

Do You Remember The First Time isn't even as good as She's A Lady. I mean, tch.

Incidentally, there's a DVD out with both Pulp's live videos combined onto one DVD. As you may be able to guess with over four hours of footage, the quality isn't awfully good - if you've got the original VHS editions, stick with them.

But buy Pulp Hits though, obviously.

I like when the guitarist has a "Ron from Sparks" moment at the end.

Pulp are great! I reckon Babies is better than DYRTFT, even though it's a great song. The lyrics are pure genius, and no-one but Jarvis could do the 'yeah yeah yeah YEAH yeah yeah' at the end. I got into them a few years ago by randomly picking up a cheap Different Class and wondered why the fuck I hadn't owned it before. Live Bed Show followed by Something Changed followed by Sorted For E's & Wizz is just the greatest trio of songs ever.

But I always feel like I'm the only person in the world that owns We Love Life. Yeah, it isn't their best but Wickerman, Weeds and Roadkill are brilliant.

I've got We Love Life. I think "The Birds In Your Garden" and "Bad Cover Version" are marvellous, two of the best songs he ever wrote... but I'm not hugely keen on the rest of the album.

And the best trio of songs on DC is clearly the last three - Underwear, followed by Monday Morning, followed by Bar Italia. Magnificent.

Aaaah! The Birds In Your Garden is one I can't stand for some reason! Bad Cover Version's alright though.
