The Style Contest
This was announced way back last week, but I just thought I'd mention it - I'm going to have a go at this.
I've no chance of winning, but what better way to try and stretch your design skills? Go on - have a bash at it. AND AFTER THAT YOU CAN ENTER THE STYLE CONTEST.

"Site design by John Hoare"
Would that not be cheating?

Deadline extended until June 5th.
Seeing as I'm leaving makro on May 24th, that's a week and a half to get a design ready. Excellent.
Anyone else here going in for this?

I'm half tempted to enter my C64 adaptation used on my blog... I don't think it's nearly good enough to win, though. Be nice to enter something, though.
I think NTS would be a great entry, John.

I hadn't actually thought of that!
Perhaps with a bit of tidying up, and different graphics, and a few additions, it could work. I could always enter *two* designs.

Oh, and I'd definitely enter your C64 design - perhaps with the odd addition here and there to make it more generally useful, rather than specific to your needs.
Neither of us will win, but it'd be a bit of practice, anyway...

Well, I've downloaded the base files. God, I HATE styling someone else's mark-up. I guess I'm going to have to fix that before July!

Odd how we're both going out into the wide world of web design work at the same time. June is my portfolio-sorting-out month - July is when I open for business...

Yeah, it's odd how it's worked out. It's a great feeling emarking on something genuinely exciting and interesting and thinking "this is going to be my life from now on". Excellent.
I'm still unsure what I'd prefer, though. Working for myself or as a part of a small development company, making sites to order and doing a bit of everything or being part of a large company producing solutions and web services to order. I guess I'll find out soon enough, though.
Christ, I've got started on this style contest now. Goodbye bed time!

I have no idea either. I'd *love* to work for myself - I've just got sick of running around after management, and not being in charge of my own work - but frankly, it's easier to make money and sort out pensions and stuff if I worked for a larger company. I guess it depends on how well my freelance stuff goes.

Ooh the deadlines been extended to the 5th of June. I can actually get my design coded in time now. Yay!

I've been sat here for five minutes trying to think of a joke about 'entering' Spid, but it's no good.

Nope. Never found time in the end.
Don't think I had a chance anyway, looking at the winners.
