Object Does Buffy
Remember this article? Well, take a look at this, written by... actually, someone should invent a word meaning "forum acquaintance".
http://objectdoesbuffy.wordpress.com/
Not, I hasten to add, that I'm responsible for Peter writing the site - just that it demonstrates that you can take a subject that you'd think has been written about to death on the net - until you investigate, and realise that most sites are just rubbish recycled episode guides and nicked images, rather than someone writing something actually interesting about the subject.
Only one post, and it's blown away 99% of Buffy sites out there - by writing with a shred of wit and intelligence...

That is a good piece. I particularly like this bit -
"she is not like Superman, the alien being who has to learn to disguise himself as a human. In High School terms, she is a socially successful human being who, on being granted superpowers, loses nothing except some of her need to be socially successful, and so uses a group of nerds to provide herself with a connection to pure humanity.
She needs to put her roots somewhere. She chooses raw, unprocessed and unthreatening humanity-mud."
I think the fact that the audience the show is aimed at isn't really meant to identify with Buffy helped lift her up as this iconic figure that girls want to be and guys want to masturbate over. It helped broaden the audience. If Buffy had been a man he WOULD have been the Peter Parker type who attracted cooler, better looking friends.

I've always thought Sarah Michelle Gellar was a bit of a cop-out for the role of Buffy. She just isn't the cheerleader rich-bitch she was meant to have started out as - she's just a blonde, more attractive version of Alyson Hannigan. If they'd kept more of a Kristy Swanson version they'd have had a much harder time constructing the character relationships.

Thinking about it, they brought in Cordelia to be the character Buffy was supposed to be....
