In tribute only, I'd say. I don't thing it'd be worthwhile to continue ISIHAC without him. He's irreplaceable in a way that Angus Deaton on HIGNFY wasn't. Who could replace him, though? I'm asking rhetorically, as this is already discussed on notbbc. I reckon it would have to be someone of his generation, and we'd very soon realise how pointless the repeated games are without him at the helm. No, draw a line under it, I say. Let it rest in peace with him. It's his legacy.

Well, to be fair, this was for a live show for which people had already bought tickets - in that instance, a fill-in is surely better than leaving people out of pocket.

I honestly can't see the show continuing without him. No disrespect to Willie Rushton intended, but this isn't the same as replacing a panelist...

Was Willie Rushton the first chairman? The obituary in the Guardian said that Lyttelton started the show.

Rushton was a panellist - the line-up of him, Graeme, Tim and Barry, with Humph in the chair - was the definitive Clue line-up until he died. It was only then that they started bringing in guest panellists, which was great, but simply wouldn't work if it was guest chairmen. No Humph, no show. But thankfully, we've got 35 years' worth of shows to listen to, and they never get old.

There's a vintage episode (well, 1995) on radio 4 at the moment.

Funniest ever Humph quip, I propose (and from 2005, so well into his supposed dotage):
"I'm getting fed up with these ridiculous celebrity endorsements. Only the other day I was in the supermarket and I saw a packet of sausages with Anthony Worrall-Thompson pictured in his kitchen on the packet. Underneath was the wording 'Prick with a fork'...."
Very long pause....
"Rather harsh, I thought".
