Have A Nice Day
From today's Mirror :
Cult favourite The Comic Strip is to return to our screens in a "swinging spoof". It will reunite The Young Ones stars Rik Mayall and Nigel Planer on TV for the first time in 18 years. The special - to be shown on Channel 4 - delves into the secrets of suburbia, including death by waterbed and wife-swapping. Mayall appears as a self-important artist and Planer plays a nosy neighbour. A Channel 4 insider said : "It's incredibly exciting to have this show back on TV." The Comic Strip broke the comedy mould in the 80s and launched a string of big names, including Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders.
I'm not sure whether this qualifies as "exciting news" or not. I can't remember the last time Rik Mayall did anything funny, and Peter Richardson (who you assume would be writing and/or directing this) hasn't exactly set the world on fire over the past decade and a half either. Let's just hope it's better than the execrable Four Men In A Plane. Which, incidentally, featured both Rik Mayall and Nigel Planer, and was considerably less than 18 years ago.
Incidentally, you'd think that ignoring all the Comic Strip films that have featured Mayall and Planer since 1987 (I get the feeling the writer of that article did their research by glancing here, seeing that Filthy, Rich and Catflap was in 1987 and that The Comic Strip Presents... is listed as 1982, and assuming therefore that Filthy was their last appearance together) would be the worst piece of shoddy journalism in today's Mirror. You'd be wrong, though. No, that honour goes to whichever idiot sports reporter decided to concoct a story that Athletic Bilbao are interested in signing Chelsea's London-born defender Glen Johnson in the January transfer window.
Athletic Bilbao, for those not up on their Spanish football, have only ever fielded Basque players since 1928. Whoops.

I'd love to see Nigel Planer do Filthy again, as I think it was the best thing he ever did.
