Spaced on BBC America
Just a quick note for Stateside readers: Spaced, the brilliant (and brilliantly done) Channel 4 comedy series, is coming to BBC America. Their official blurb:
The new show is Spaced, written by Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead) and Jessica Stevenson (Smack the Pony), chronicling the agony and ecstasy of two disillusioned Gen X-ers adrift in a world where reality is as subjective as their taste in shoes. Produced by Paramount Comedy and LWT for the U.K.’s Channel 4, it premieres with an hour-long special (two of seven 30-minute episodes) Friday, June 23, at 11 p.m. (EST)/8 p.m. (PST).
A region one release is likely to follow, methinks. And though the blurb doesn't exactly make the program sound like unmissable television, I doubt you'll find any contributors to this site who don't enthusiastically support the program.
Frankly it's a definite candidate for "perfect show." But that's an article in itself.

Man, that's a terrible synopsis. But Phil's right - it's spectacular. Lap it up, Yankees.

I don't know if I've ever seen a good synopsis of the show. It's difficult to summarize, though, in fairness, as just about every plot thread comes to some sort of resolution within the run of the two series...characters move in and out of the house, jobs are gained and lost, relationships between the characters change significantly...
Maybe BBC America should host a synopsis competition. Because if I didn't know better, I'd say that blub above would just about convince me not to watch the program.

It's not inaccurate, but it sounds a bit wanky. I've had a go below, but Phil is correct in stating that it's a bugger to try and sum up in a blurb.
'The new show is Spaced, written by Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead) and Jessica Stevenson (Smack the Pony), following the struggle of Daisy and Tim, two twenty-somethings trying to make sense of love, life and pop culture. But mainly pop culture.'

It's hard to describe briefly because it really is a show about 'nothing' in the Seinfeld sense of the word. You could easily say 'they live in a flat...er, that's it' and it just sounds crap but it's BRILLIANT!

Actually Tanya that isn't half bad. What really were they thinking of when they drafted the official blurb? With the exception of Twist I don't think anyone in the show cares all that much about "taste in shoes." In fact, it sounds like you'll be watching a show full of self-obsessed simpletons...which is not true at all. They each have very different modes of expression, and they are all articulate in their own way. Is there an article stewing in me or what?

I think they were trying to convey the alternative sense of reality in the show, but it's a shame they felt obliged to crowbar the Gen-X reference (which I've never understood anyway), because it does start to give the impression that there's nothing deeper there.

When was Jessica Stevenson in Smack The Pony?

>When was Jessica Stevenson in Smack The Pony?
Good call; a look at imdb certainly implies she never appeared in Smack the Pony. Maybe they're getting it confused with Six Pairs of Pants, another sketch show that featured Sally Phillips?

I must get round to watching Spaced at some point (and Shaun of the Dead for that matter), I've had them both on DVD for ages and never got round to watching them at all. Might start off with some earlier stuff as Asylum has just been posted on UKN, not that I've ever seen that either :(
As for the press release at least it wasn't Simon Pegg (Mission Impossible 3) and Jessica Stevenson (Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason)
